Abingdon's Third Grade Team
Things To Look Forward To:
We have a lot of exciting things ahead in 3rd grade! Our specials this year are P.E., art, music and science lab. In the spring we will go on a field trip to Outdoor Lab and we will also do a week of swimming for P.E. at Wakefield High School.
We have so many interesting topics to learn about this year! In ELA we will continue to use the Foundations program for phonics instruction daily. We will also continue using the CKLA program for our reading block. Some units we will explore are classic tales, animal classifications, Ancient Rome, and astronomy! We will be covering a wide range of topics in math this year! Some of those topics include data & graphing, place value, reading, writing & representing 6 digit numbers, addition and subtraction of 4 digit numbers, multiplication and division models, fractions, probability, geometry and measurement. 3rd graders will learn science both in our classroom as well as in their Science Lab special with Ms. Upshur. We will learn about the water cycle, simple machines, ecosystems, animal adaptations, matter and soil. For social studies we will cover units on citizenship, geography and economics in the first quarter. For the remainder of the year, the bulk of our social studies content is centered around the ancient civilizations of Egypt, China, Greece, Rome & Mali.
We are so excited to be working together this year!
