Welcome Message from Principal Uyeda

Dear Abingdon Families,

Welcome back to school!

Now that we’ve completed all phases of our renovation and expansion project, we’re ready to begin a new school year with renewed energy toward our vision of Guiding Instruction through Fine Arts and Technology. The spaces in our new building reflect this: from our STEM and Makerspace lab to many small group, collaborative spaces equipped with flexible seating, we’re working to promote active, personalized learning opportunities.

As part of Arlington Public Schools, we are committed to empowering all students and creating an inclusive environment. Here at Abingdon, that means instilling a sense of student agency in the learning process. Our staff members are united around common goals of student-driven learning, collaborative problem-solving, and recognition of students’ many intelligences. These goals are reflected in our workshop models, our passion for the arts, and our carefully cultivated partnerships with the Kennedy Center and Teachers College.

I encourage you to stay engaged with us through Peachjar, Twitter (@AbingdonGIFT), and by attending school events organized through our PTA. Abingdon’s staff, PTA, and I are here to guide you and answer any questions you may have. I look forward to another successful year.
