2019 APS Community Coding Event

The 2019 APS Community Coding Event will be held on Tuesday, December 10th from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Kenmore Middle School. The event offers students a chance to celebrate the Hour of Code™️ in addition to any activities which may be taking place during the school day. It is intended for all APS students in grades PreK-5th and their families; however, several of the activities would be appropriate for anyone just learning to code.The Hour of Code is a global movement by Computer Science Education Week and Code.org, reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries through a one-hour introduction to computer science and computer programming.Several types of coding activities will be offered depending on the participant’s age/grade level. The sessions are run by APS staff and community volunteers, including several local organizations. Here are just some of the activity sessions being offered:

  • Scratch Jr. and Scratch
  • Code-a-pillars
  • Osmo
  • Bee-Bots, Blue Bots, Ozobots, and Milo the Robot
  • Mbot, Sphero, and VEX Robotics
  • Python

Community volunteers include PBSKids, Accenture, Boolean Girls, and NOVA SySTEMic.No registration is needed prior to attending the event. All devices will be provided.
