In art class, the students at Abingdon enjoy working with a variety of materials and techniques through the use of painting, drawing, graphics, and sculpture. We also foster talent in art and the creative process by recognizing math processes involved to complete a work of art, such as geometry, measurement, and symmetry. Students are very attached and proud of the art work they produce in art class! The techniques taught are in line with Virginia SOL objectives.
These pictures show the dynamic artwork designed by Abingdon students. The students have measured with a ruler, cut perfect geometric shapes, created designs that have a line of symmetry, used graph paper to enlarge and plot a design, and have used positive and negative space to create dimension. The students have delivered a product by using creative thought, problem solving, critical thoughts, and self expression.
